For our latest #TeamTalk, Ben Thomas, our Area Sales Manager for Wales, tells us how we he started out in the flooring industry and the most valuable lesson from his career so far.
What was your first ever job?
My first job was a Sunday paper round which paid £5.50 a week.
How did you get into the flooring industry?
I began my career in flooring working in customer services at MCD Wales.
How would you describe your current role?
My role can be challenging at times but ultimately it is rewarding and very enjoyable.
What’s the best thing about working at Bostik?
The best thing about working at Bostik is that I’m surrounded by a strong team who are always willing to help no matter what the circumstances.
What is a positive of the industry?
The relationships built in the flooring industry are second to none.
What is a negative of the industry?
I’d say that the race to the bottom on pricing is the biggest negative of the flooring industry.
What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned in your career so far?
Early in my career, I learnt that you should always return with the information required, even if it’s a negative.
What do you think the future holds for the industry?
I believe the industry will evolve over the next couple of years with exciting new product launches and bringing more sustainability to the industry.
What is something people might not know about you?
I am Welsh speaking.

I’d be Michael Caine’s character Charlie Corker in the Italian Job to discover what his plan was!
