The benefits of choosing the right partners

The benefits of choosing the right partners

In this guest blog, Nick Wray at Sedgley Flooring Solutions explains how flooring contractors can benefit from selecting the ideal suppliers for collaboration.

The flooring industry looks set to be extremely busy in the coming months. We are finding that a lot of projects such as schools, hospitals and prisons are getting off the ground. They require not just floor laying but post-installation maintenance too, so it’s never been more important to select the best partners for these projects.

There are two main things a flooring contractor should aim to do on every project: work with the client to get the floor coverings installed to the best standard possible, and stick to the programmed works to fit in with other trades. At Sedgley Flooring Solutions, we know that if we’re delivering on both counts, we’re meeting the client’s most important requirements.

Achieving these objectives can still be a challenge. If the subfloor preparation products are poor and so is the service they come with, there’s little we can do except end that relationship and hope for a better one next time. By then though, choosing the wrong suppliers has already negatively impacted our relationship with a client. That’s why it’s vital to choose a supplier with good products (at good value) and trustworthy technical support that can provide the experience and expertise your project needs.

Our recent collaboration on the Oasis Academy project in Leesbrook, Oldham demonstrates why we continue to keep partnering with Bostik.

“If the subfloor preparation products are poor and so is the service they come with, there’s little we can do except end that relationship and hope for a better one next time.”

We had to overcome some difficult conditions to ensure the project was completed on schedule, and the team at Bostik enabled us to do this. They were quick to identify the best solutions, and because they were so calm and knowledgeable, we always had full confidence that the job could keep moving forwards.

When Bostik’s technical team first visited the site to carry out preliminary tests, it was quickly apparent to them that certain areas of the subfloor posed a challenge. For example, there was water damage on the upper levels and some parts of the concrete showed signs of rebar shadowing. Based on this, the Bostik team compiled a report for us. This clearly laid out the issues present and advised on how to overcome them to ensure the floor coverings could be installed to the highest possible standard.

We use Bostik for 90 percent of the preparation works we undertake, and this project shows why. Deliveries were made on time, there is a great team at the headquarters who kept things on schedule, and the reps were fantastic at getting reports processed efficiently and advising the best solutions.

Aided by Bostik’s technical advice and subfloor preparation products, we were able to overcome all the project’s difficulties and install the floor coverings on schedule, ready for when teaching was due to begin in the new building. And that’s just one example of the many times we have successfully partnered together.

Choosing the ideal partners for these flooring projects means collaborating with people who are reliable, knowledgeable, and great to deal with. Our relationship with Bostik gives us one less thing to worry about so we can focus on satisfying our client with the best possible job.
