As this year’s Flooring Show approaches, it also means we move ever closer to the grand final of 2021’s Fitter of the Year – LVT competition, which Bostik is proud to sponsor.
Organised by the National Institute of Carpet & Floorlayers (NCIF), the competition’s focus on LVT reflects its increasing popularity for domestic settings and has allowed a different set of skills to be tested. In future, the competition will alternate its focus each year, with 2022’s focus already planned for carpet.
After being postponed in 2020, the previous stages of this year’s competition took place earlier in 2021, safely in line with COVID regulations. The semi-finals were conducted over two days in June, with a live stream being broadcast via UK flooring TV on Facebook over both days.
Following the semi-final trials, six competitors have been selected to progress to the final. They all attended a briefing day at the end of July where they were given a summary of what would be needed from them in the final. They were also provided with materials for a pre-set task and asked to create any items that will be judged at the finals.
The Fitter of the Year competition’s grand final and judging will be held over 19th and 20th September at The Flooring Show in the Kings Suite of Harrogate Convention Centre. The winner will receive a cheque for £2000, a winner’s trophy, a set of great prizes including a selection of tools, and one year’s free NICF Master Fitter membership.
