In collaboration with Westcotes Flooring Company, Bostik has been recognised for the ‘Best flooring in education – schools’ project at the CFJ/CFA Awards 2021.
Key elements of the 9000m2 project at the Katherine Warington School in Harpenden, Hertfordshire included safety vinyl, carpet tiles, entrance matting, and specialist sprung timber sports flooring. The right preparation methods and products were required to withstand the stomping feet of thousands of students over the next hundred years.
Overcoming wet subfloors and dense, polished surfaces while ensuring safety for students, Bostik’s Screedmaster One Coat Membrane, Universal Primer, Screedmaster Flow, Screedmaster Smooth and Bostik Roll proved to be the perfect choice.
Based on Bostik’s recommendations, Westcotes mechanically prepared the highly polished and dense surfaces before treating the wet areas of the subfloor with Bostik Screedmaster One Coat Membrane, followed by Bostik Universal Primer, which delivered excellent coverage rates. For its excellent flow characteristics and easy trowelling, Westcotes utilised Bostik’s Screedmaster Flow smoothing compound for a professional finish on which to lay the floor coverings. Throughout the main hall and dining areas, Screedmaster Smooth ensured an especially smooth finish was achieved.
Bostik Roll proved itself as an effective alternative to water and solvent-based adhesives by helping to apply capping to the walls where coved vinyl skirting was to be installed. An extra strong, double-sided tape with excellent plasticiser migration resistance, Bostik Roll ensures a life-long bond upon contact, which will endure the knocks and bumps of students rushing to their lessons for a lifetime.
